We often get asked if there are hospices in Mallorca.
Presently there are none, but there are different options for palliative care.

Hospital General, Hospital Joan March, Hospital San Juan de Dios (Palma and Inca) and Hospital de Manacor all have palliative care units and Son Espases has a paediatric palliative care unit.

These hospitals are known as Sociosanitario and offer care not just to those with terminal illnesses, but also those recovering from operations or needing care that cannot be provided at home.

There is also a team called ESAD that specialises in home care, helping the family and carers of those who prefer to stay at home and not be hospitalised. They hope those with terminal and chronic illnesses.

In Menorca ESAD helps those at home and in hospital in need of palliative care.

When the need arises, the patient’s doctor will organise a transfer into a palliative care unit, or request support from ESAD.
